Hi-Fi Corner's Review Policy FAQ

Do you get paid for the reviews?

We do not receive nor seek payment of any kind for our reviews. Unlike hifi magazines we do not sell advertising or reprints on the back of a review.

Who does your reviews?

At present our Managing Director does our reviews and makes comment using his long- term experience in the hifi business. We hope to extend our reviews out to our experienced staff as we continue to expand our online policy.

Do you check the specifications?

We are offering subjective reviews and do not confirm the validity of manufacturers' claims. If you wish this information, we would advise you to read technical journals. Most of our customers are simply interested in whether the equipment will work well for them.

How do you choose the equipment?

At present equipment is chosen if there is a recommendation from our staff to our MD that it merits it being highlighted due to its exceptional quality or being unusual. Sometimes it is reviewed as part of the buying in process of HiFi Corner.

As a company we don't sell things just 'because they are cheap'. We have standards of sound quality, reliability and after sales which manufacturers have to adhere to in order to be considered.

Why are there no bad reviews?

If something doesn't reach our expectations it won't be on our shelves. It would look like sour grapes to review something badly, especially as you couldn't buy it in a Hifi Corner store. Some equipment is very good but overpriced, we simply can't bring ourselves to stock it.

You will see on our reviews things which we reckon could be improved. Almost everything made can be improved otherwise the world would never change. As someone said "change is inevitable, except from a vending machine".

How many people read your reviews?

We take our comments seriously as they are now read by thousands of people per month. In fact more people read the Hifi Corner web site each month than buy Britain's biggest selling hifi magazine, What Hifi? in Scotland.

Are all the hints on how to get the best from the reviewed equipment listed?

No, we are constantly being asked for more details, however, the only real way to get full information is to pay a personal visit to a Hifi Corner store.

How do I tell you about a mistake or suggestion?

Go to our contact page and send us details please.
