Soundpax NXT - independent report by Colin MacKenzie
This article is for reference only- unfortunately despite their amazing sound the public haven't invested in paper speakers- shame!!
NXT are famous for developing and licensing their flat speaker technology. The latest NXT innovation is the Soundpax by DS Smith Packaging.
NXT means New Transducer Technology ('x' being an accepted abbreviation of 'transducer').
Soundpax (not spelt Soundpacks) is an amazing novelty speaker. It will generate a storm of interest!
This is an early comment on the initial reaction to the speakers which arrived today at Hifi Corner.
The Soundpax speakers which measure (HxDxW) 720mm x 450mmx540 are made from acoustic fluted composite (AFC). To you or me it looks like (and most probably is) cardboard.
On unpacking the product in our office everyone was incredulous that these 'cardboard' speakers could work at all. However, jaws dropped when they were switched on. Although not 'hifi' in the strictest terms they offered a surprisingly good sound and went loud enough to fill our large office.
On taking the speakers to our local radio station for an independent view, they were amazed at a speaker which (with the exception of the 'exciter') is biodegradable. The speaker is flat-packed and can fold away when not required. When switched on I asked three experienced radio managers how much do they think they would cost? Answers varied from £100 to £1000! Judged on sound quality. You can imagine the surprise when they were told the price is £30.00! Three pairs were instantly sold. (Hifi Corner Internet price is £35.00 delivered-). Not only are these speakers amazingly inexpensive, but they have loudspeaker cable included in the price and overload protection as well!
The first member of the public to hear them in Scotland also bought a pair. He bought them thinking they were £30.00 EACH, we quickly corrected them (yes, there is such a thing as an honest retailer!).
